It’s been a long while since I’ve posted, after a planned pause. A few months ago I took a planned pause from blogging. Now I’m gently re-entering and renewing my vision for a new season of life.
Why take an intentional pause?
This coming November marks 15 years since I started blogging and connecting with people online through art making. It seems like a good time to reflect and respond with that anniversary coming up, but that’s not the only reason.
At the beginning of this year I looked over the past year. It is clear my life has changed and is transitioning into a new season of life. We’ve moved to a new home, a smaller studio, and I took a close look at where I invest my time, money and energy and so on. I also turned 65 years old, bringing aging to the forefront with Medicare (here in the USA ) etc.
I am so thankful for the connections made through my blog and other online connections. Taking a break showed me I don’t want to stop connecting and sharing art adventures. Thank you for joining me on the journey!
Another reason a pause seemed necessary is because I decided to take an intensive course in Surface Pattern Design, Immersion with Bonnie Christine. It was incredible, comprehensive as well as a lot of work that required a good amount of time and focus. I couldn’t have done it on my own, and now enjoy making repeating pattern designs and working with Adobe Illustrator. There is also a certification test and I am happy to announce I am now an Immersion Certified Surface Pattern Designer. I’ll share more about the story behind taking the course and this new creative endeavor in an upcoming post.
Reflecting on Life’s Meaning
This may sound random, but have you looked through your photos on your phone recently?
I just did that. Who knew scrolling through old photos could reveal so much?!
Originally I was looking for some past artwork and went back to a year of highlights in 2017. As I scrolled through the photos, it became more of a personal activity than trying to find a specific art photo. I felt both joy and sadness. For me, 2017-2019 were filled with delightful abundance. It included two major trips, art making, and connecting with people with joy-filled adventures.
The sadness came when the photos reminded me of the losses I now experience in some relationships, some people who are no longer here on earth, and losses of creative connections.
Then, the Joy and sadness gave way to gratitude. Nothing can take away the blessings of those joy-filled moments. They are a part of me and my experience. I’m taking time to reflect on the meaning, looking back. This time it is without the sting of loss and also looking forward with hope.
While scrolling through my photos, I also noticed constants that are life-giving, things that bring stability, comfort. I’m still filled with wonder of the beauty around me and experience the loving presence of the Holy Trinity, God my Father, Holy Spirit, and Jesus Christ. That continues to be a daily comfort. A few key people kept popping up who bring joy and connection in my life. I am thankful. Then it is clear that there are two more things that have consistently been a part of my well-being and joy: art making and being in nature, in my garden and walking on the beach when I can.
It’s been helpful to intentionally consider what is life-giving, and pursue those things.
What brings you stability and inspires joy?
Over this summer, I will continue to explore what the new season will hold. Adjustments and changes are coming, but there are also those core values that stay constant.
I hope you are finding joy and hope in your journey.
Thank you for stopping by. I love reading your comments and connecting.
Can you feel it?
Something new is just beginning…
Be blessed!
