NEW MCM Stencils and Video Tutorials

StencilGirl® stencils used: Mid-Century Modern Wonky Grid 9x12” #LL1060, Mid-Century Ovals 6x6”  #SA1019

One of my favorite styles is Mid-Century Modern and one of my favorite art supplies to use is stencils. In this post I celebrate and express both of my favs. You can too!

Below you will find two video tutorials: one using a gel press and the stencil masks from StencilGirl® Products LL1062, and the other short reel using the honeycomb stencil (M348) to embellish the back pocket of a dotted notebook (Archer & Olive) along with some Washi tape and stickers from the Spring subscription box.

Art from Stencils

In the above left photo, I used the Mid-Century Modern Wonky Grid 9x12” (#LL1060) that pairs well with stencils like the Mid-Century stencils. It’s a great way to add some whimsy and make a quote special.

The versatile MCM ovals stencil 6x6” (#SA1019) is ideal for adding a bit of pattern to your artwork, as a background, scalloped border, or stacked ovals border.

Below is another MCM stencil that is so easy and fun to use. It’s a 6” stencil, smaller than the 9x12 stencil masks demonstrated in the video further down. Here the stencil is done in an A5 160 gsm dotted notebook by Archer & Olive. Their paper takes the paint well.

Mid-Century Modern Organic stencil

StencilGirl Products® stencil used: Mid-Century Modern Organic Shapes  6x6”    #SA1020

In the stencil below ,this versatile sectioned stencil features an expanded version of a mashup Mary Beth Shaw, the founder of StencilGirl® Products, and I did for StencilClub a few years ago. It can be used as a whole on a background or bring out features of various parts of the stencil, or use the sections for tags and cards etc. Add mixed media such as Washi Tape, pencil, pen etc. It’s the Shaw-Sjodin Mashup 9x12”  #LL1061

The photo below and the video tutorial feature the: Organic Shapes Mid-Century Modern Stencil/Masks 9x12 #LL1062

The masks and stencil can be used for layering the medium large organic Mid-Century Modern shapes on a gel press for beautiful Mid-Century Modern painted papers. You can also stencil, or trace and cut out organic shapes for collage pieces, for a contemporary layered pattern.

How-to video

Honeycomb Stencil

An easy way to jazz up a notebook page is with a stencil. I like to use a thin swipe of watercolor over the stencil on the page. It’s quick, easy and plays well with other mediums such as Washi tape, stickers, and collage.

This repeatable honeycomb stencil adds the perfect geometric, sweet background touches to journal pages and other artworks.

The reel gives a quick how-to demo.

I’m using Archer & Olive’s bee themed subscription box notebook, Washi tape and stickers.
